About

Twenty years of building telecom & arguing the policy that surrounds it.

Reyad Hasnain is the Managing Director of Smart Lab and SUBARU Bangladesh, and one of South Asia’s most articulate public voices on ICT policy and the digital economy. Across two decades, he has led nationwide mobile financial service expansions, negotiated and executed €11.2M+ telecom infrastructure deals, and delivered 100% YoY revenue growth across emerging-market portfolios at Mahindra Comviva, Nokia Siemens Networks, and Siemens. Today he writes and speaks on the policy reforms required for Bangladesh to make ICT and IT-enabled services the next RMG — the next great export engine for the country.

The path here

From cadet college to country managing director.

Portrait of Reyad Hasnain
1990s · Faujderhat

Where the discipline started.

SSC and HSC at Faujderhat Cadet College in Chittagong — the institution that shaped a cohort of Bangladeshi leaders across military, civil service, business, and the professions. Cadet college taught the cadence: structure, accountability, results.

2000s · Michigan

Engineering as a way of seeing.

BSc Electrical Engineering at Michigan Technological University. The discipline of looking at any system — telecom, regulatory, organisational — as something with inputs, outputs, constraints, and feedback loops. That lens never left.

2005 — 2007 · Siemens

Project management at the edge of the network.

Head of Project Management at Siemens Bangladesh during a critical scaling phase of the country's telecom infrastructure. Sites, schedules, stakeholders, vendor escalations — the granular reality of what it actually takes to ship telecom at country scale.

2007 — 2014 · NSN

Two markets, one playbook.

Head of Sales & Business Development at Nokia Siemens Networks across Dhaka and Windhoek. €11.2M+ in negotiated telecom infrastructure deals. Two distinctly different emerging markets — Bangladesh and Namibia — taught how much of telecom strategy is universal and how much is local.

2014 — 2019 · Comviva

Mobile financial services, at country scale.

Country Manager for Mahindra Comviva — the platform behind much of Bangladesh's mobile financial services rails. Led nationwide MFS expansion. 100% YoY revenue growth across the country portfolio. The years that turned an interest in MFS policy into hands-on operating experience.

2019 — Today · Smart Lab

Industry leadership, public advocacy.

Founded Smart Lab as the executive vehicle for the next phase. Combining hands-on industry leadership with active public advocacy on ICT policy, the digital economy, youth empowerment, and the case for technology-led inclusive growth. The argument that runs through everything: ICT can be Bangladesh's next RMG.
